Community tourism is one of the best ways to generate income to people living near the forest and to encourage them to conserve their own forests and wildlife. NPC is promoting eco-tourism based on living in rural communities.

Tourism in La Esperanza, Yambrasbamba

The forests of La Esperanza are extremely beautiful and diverse. They are also very hard to walk through as the mountains are extremely rugged and usually muddy. There are no hotels or fancy restaurants and the conditions in the field sites are quite rough.  However, this is probably the best place to see the rare and endemic yellow tailed woolly monkeys, and the Long-Whiskered Owlet, so the hard walking definitely pays off.

Tourism in Corosha

Corosha is the first community in Amazonas that created a communal reserve on their lands. Accomodation is basica but the reseption is warm. Caves, watefalls, lakes and a lot of wildlife are waiting there to be explored.

Prices:

The prices were appointed by the communities.

• Accommodation in the village or at the field site: 20 Peruvian soles/day

• Food: 3-5 Peruvian soles per meal.

• Field guide: 25 Peruvian soles/day

• mule ride: 30 Peruvian soles/day

Regulations for visitors

• Visits must be pre-arranged by email.

• Walking in the forest is ONLY with a local field guide.

• No capturing or hunting of any animal is allowed.

• No extraction of plants is allowed
