NPC Argentina recently co-hosted a conservation planning workshop to develop an action plan to save the brown howler monkey (A. guariba) from extinction. In the last few years this species’ extinction risk has gone from Endangered to Critically Endangered under Argentine law.
The brown howler monkey is endemic to the Atlantic Forest of Argentina and Brazil, and there are currently less than 50 individuals left in Argentina. The three-day workshop was used to evaluate in-situ and ex-situ conservation strategies with a multidisciplinary group of specialists made up of park rangers, researchers, and national and provincial authorities.
